Highest Awards
The Bronze Award is the third highest award in Girl Scouts of the USA and can only be earned by Girl Scouts at the Junior level (4th and 5th grade girls).
Earning the Bronze Award involves taking the time to complete a Leadership Journey, plus a minimum of 20 hours spent building your team, exploring your community, choosing your project, planning it, putting your plan in motion, and spreading the word about your project. The hours help you think about your commitment to doing your very best with each step. You’re a Girl Scout, which means you will earn your award with courage, confidence, and character.
The Silver Award is the second highest award of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn (girls 6th grade through 8th grade).
Earning the Silver Award involves taking the time to complete a Leadership Journey, the suggested minimum time for earning your Girl Scout Silver Award is 50 hours, but many girls exceed the minimum hours.
Then we have the Gold Award. Gold Award Girl Scouts are the dreamers and the doers who take “make the world a better place” to the next level. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable—proof that not only can she make a difference, but that she already has.
Seniors and Ambassadors who earn the Gold Award tackle issues that are dear to them and drive lasting change in their communities and beyond. Think of the Gold Award as a key that can open doors to scholarships, preferred admission tracks for college, and amazing career opportunities.
To earn the award, each girl must complete two Senior or Ambassador Leadership Journeys or complete one Senior or Ambassador Leadership Journey and have earned a Girl Scout Silver Award. After completing either of these requirements, a minimum of 80 hours is suggested to complete the steps to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Girl Scouts who choose to work and earn the Highest Awards are true leaders. They find solutions to some of the issues in the world today and spend many hours implementing those solutions.
